SayaCare

Project presentation

SayaCare is an innovative initiative led by Sayaspora that aims to transform access to health information and resources for women from the African diaspora in Canada. Many women still face significant obstacles in their healthcare journey: lack of appropriate information, language barriers, mistrust of the medical system, taboos surrounding certain topics, and isolation in the face of chronic illnesses. These challenges can have direct consequences on their physical and mental well-being. In response to these issues, SayaCare offers an inclusive, participatory, and accessible approach that puts women at the center of their own healthcare journey. The project is based on five major complementary components—workshops, podcasts, practical guides, a resource platform, and an awareness campaign—to:
Inform through reliable and culturally appropriate content.
Equipping by providing practical guides and concrete resources. • Provide support through safe discussion spaces where participants can ask questions.
Raise awareness through a multimedia campaign that widely disseminates key messages.
Promote community knowledge, by giving a voice to the women themselves and to professionals from diverse backgrounds.
By building bridges between healthcare institutions, community stakeholders, and the women concerned, SayaCare aims to build an environment where everyone can access information, understand their rights, take care of their health, and feel supported in their choices.

Project duration: July 2024 to December 2025

Project Activities

The project is divided into five main sections:

Part 1: Participatory Health Workshops (Events)

Practical and interactive workshops focusing on reproductive and sexual health, mental health, chronic diseases, and lifestyle habits. These workshops will allow participants to interact with healthcare professionals and leave with practical tools.

Part 2: Podcast Series

A six-episode series featuring experts and community members. Discussions will focus on various health issues experienced by racialized women in Canada.

Part 3: Practical Guides

Simple, illustrated, and accessible documents to support women in their healthcare efforts. They will be available in PDF format and translated into several languages to ensure broad access.

Part 4: Resource Platform

A digital space featuring practical tools, a directory of professionals, reliable references, and other useful content to help navigate the healthcare system.

Part 5: Awareness Campaign

A gallery of multimedia content (visuals, videos, reels, and testimonials) widely disseminating the project’s messages and helping to break down taboos surrounding the health of diaspora women.
