Event: Workshop SAYACARE : Healing over Tea : Breaking Stigmas Together

Event Summary : SayaCare – Wellness Day

On December 13, we ended the year on a high note with Wellness Day, an entire day dedicated to care, healing, and knowledge. In the welcoming space of Sayaspora, women from the African diaspora gathered for a moment of respite, combining deep rejuvenation with essential learning for our collective health.

Event objective

The mission of this special day was to provide a space for total relaxation while equipping participants with tools to address often overlooked or taboo health issues.

Releasing tension with Sound Healing

The day began with a deep immersion in sound vibrations. This Sound Healing session allowed everyone to release the tensions accumulated during the year, calm the mind, and refocus. It was a moment of pure gentleness to reconnect with oneself before beginning the educational part of the day.

Understanding your heritage with Swab The World

We had the honor of welcoming Swab The World for a powerful workshop on genetic diversity. This session demystified the importance of representing racialized communities in donor banks and helped us understand how our DNA and origins influence our health journey. It was a necessary discussion to reclaim power over our health narratives.

Women’s Health 101 with Vivre 100 Fibromes

To conclude the day, the organization Vivre 100 Fibromes led a comprehensive workshop on hormonal and menstrual health. Without taboos, participants were able to explore how their cycles work, identify conditions such as fibroids and endometriosis, and receive practical advice on feminine hygiene.

On the agenda

Healing | Knowledge | Solidarity
From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this immersive experience offered:
• Sound Healing Session : Reconnection and emotional release.
• Swab The World workshop : Health, DNA, and diversity issues.
• Lunch break : Informal discussions and networking among participants.
• Living with Fibroids workshop : Understanding the female cycle and female health issues.
• End-of-year raffle : Two $100 gift cards were given away to support our members’ well-being.

A day to put yourself first

Wellness Day was much more than a series of workshops; it was a true act of collective care. Each woman left not only with tools for self-determination in her health, but also with the feeling of having been seen, heard, and celebrated.

The SayaCare project

SayaCare, supported by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, is an initiative of Sayaspora that aims to reduce inequalities in access to care for women from the African diaspora in Canada. Through workshops, a podcast, a multilingual guide, and an awareness campaign, SayaCare creates safe spaces to learn, express oneself, and regain control of one’s health with dignity.
