Volunteer Opportunity: French-Language Editor-in-Chief

Sayaspora is currently looking for a French-Language Editor-in-Chief for approximately 5 to 10 hours of involvement per week. Description of the organization

Sayaspora is a Montréal-based non-profit organization that amplifies the voices of young women from the African diaspora in Canada through cultural, media, and community-based projects. Through initiatives such as Making Your Way Up, Conversations d’Impact, and Dialogues de la Diaspora, Sayaspora creates spaces for reflection, creation, and dissemination that foster inclusion, representation, and collective empowerment within marginalized communities.

Position description

We are recruiting new volunteers! We are expanding our team to welcome several African women who are ready to work with us toward the betterment of our communities — young women who are agents of change. As Editorial Director at Sayaspora, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing all of the organization's editorial activities. You will play a key role in the creation, coordination, and publication of high-quality content that reflects Sayaspora's values and mission, and contributes to the promotion and visibility of Sayaspora.

The person will have to…

  • Developing and implementing an editorial strategy in collaboration with the executive director
  • Developing and managing the annual editorial calendar
  • Overseeing the creation, writing, editing, and publication of all content (articles, blogs, newsletters, etc.)
  • Ensuring the consistency and quality of editorial content in accordance with the organization's guidelines
  • Coordinating and managing a team of writers, journalists, and volunteer contributors
  • Working closely with the communications, marketing, and design teams to ensure content is aligned with the organization's objectives
  • Managing relationships with authors and external partners for content production
  • Analyzing the performance of editorial content and adjusting strategy accordingly
  • Ensuring the continuous updating of content platforms (website, blog, etc.)
  • Taking on other tasks and responsibilities as defined by management

Ideally, the person will have…

  • An excellent command of written and spoken French (writing, editing, proofreading, and a strong sense of style)
  • Ability to develop strategies, manage calendars, and oversee publications
  • Ability to coordinate and motivate a team of writers and contributors
  • Ability to work closely with communications and marketing teams
  • Proficiency with digital tools

  • Submission of a writing sample is required upon application
  • Start date: May 2026
  • Hours of contribution: 5 to 10 hours per week
  • Attendance at team activities and meetings is mandatory
