Volunteer Opportunity: Social Media Strategist

Sayaspora is currently looking for a Social Media Strategist for about 5 to 10 hours per week.

Description of the organization

Sayaspora is a Montréal-based non-profit organization that amplifies the voices of young women from the African diaspora in Canada through cultural, media, and community-based projects. Through initiatives such as Making Your Way Up, Conversations d’Impact, and Dialogues de la Diaspora, Sayaspora creates spaces for reflection, creation, and dissemination that foster inclusion, representation, and collective empowerment within marginalized communities.

Position description

We’re recruiting new volunteers! We expand our team year-round to support the fulfillment of our various missions within the African diaspora. As a Social Media Strategist at Sayaspora, you will play a central role in designing, implementing, and optimizing our digital strategy to enhance the visibility, consistency, and impact of our media across its various platforms. You will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Branding, the Digital Development Manager, the Community Manager, and the content creators to ensure alignment with the overall strategy.

The person will have to…

  • Define, plan, and implement Sayaspora’s social media strategy in alignment with our mission, target audiences, and editorial content.
  • Develop and coordinate creative and relevant digital campaigns, particularly around our editorial content, videos, events, and community initiatives.
  • Develop editorial calendars for various platforms (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) and monitor their execution based on budgets, editorial priorities, and key organizational events.
  • Design and structure Sayaspora’s video content strategy in collaboration with content creators, and ensure its effective implementation by the team.
  • Ensure brand consistency across digital platforms, highlighting our feminist, diaspora, and intersectional values.
  • Analyze performance data for published content and adjust the strategy accordingly, in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Branding.
  • Contribute to strategic monitoring: identify digital trends, industry best practices, and competitor activities.

Ideally, the person will have…

  • Education in marketing, communications, management, digital media, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in social media management or content strategy, ideally in a community or media setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, analytics tools (Meta, TikTok Analytics, etc.), and content optimization practices.
  • Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and attention to detail in managing editorial projects.
  • Creativity, an eye for aesthetics, and the ability to translate ideas into engaging visual or narrative concepts.
  • Sensitivity to the issues of representation, social justice, and inclusion specific to Sayaspora.
