Volunteer Opportunity: Human Resources Director

Description of the organization

Sayaspora is a Montréal-based non-profit organization that amplifies the voices of young women from the African diaspora in Canada through cultural, media, and community-based projects. Through initiatives such as Making Your Way Up, Conversations d’Impact, and Dialogues de la Diaspora, Sayaspora creates spaces for reflection, creation, and dissemination that foster inclusion, representation, and collective empowerment within marginalized communities.

Position description

We are recruiting new volunteers! We are expanding our team to welcome several African women who are ready to work with us toward the betterment of our communities — young women who are agents of change. As Volunteer Human Resources Director at Sayaspora, you will be responsible for the optimal coordination of volunteer projects as well as the supervision of all volunteer operational activities within the organization. You will play a key role in optimizing processes and supporting Sayaspora's strategic volunteer initiatives.

The person will have to…

  • Developing and implementing volunteer management HR strategies in collaboration with the executive director
  • Overseeing daily volunteer operations to ensure they are effective and aligned with the organization's objectives
  • Developing and managing the volunteer human resources budget in collaboration with the finance director
  • Optimizing volunteer operational processes to improve efficiency and service quality
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable volunteer program standards and regulations
  • Preparing volunteer HR team reports for board of directors meetings
  • Taking on other tasks and responsibilities as defined by management

Ideally, the person will have…

  • A background in human resources management, administration, social sciences, or a related field
  • At least 1 to 2 years of experience in volunteer management, team coordination, or HR
  • Good proficiency with office tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Ability to write clear and structured reports
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and autonomy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (French required, English an asset)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate across multiple departments
