Sayaspora is calling for applications to fill 2 positions on its Board of Directors with women from the African diaspora, in line with its mission.

Whether through stimulating projects like Making your way up, Diaspora Speaking Festival or Culture, Sayaspora’smission is to promote the African diaspora in Canada, which is why we need your help !

Position description

Sayaspora is a medium that amplifies the voices of women from the African diaspora in Canada. Founded in 2015 in Montreal. Sayaspora was founded on the belief in the power of representation as a tool for social change and inspiration.

Managed, conceived and directed by women of African descent who live in Canada and act for the good and development of their community, Sayaspora's mission is to empower women of the African diaspora through a community, safe spaces and resources that contribute to their personal, professional and cultural well-being. Now Sayaspora is a network of over 20,000 people online, with a predominantly young female audience (aged 18-35).

The person will have to…

  • Ensure compliance with the laws governing NPOs
  • Respect and uphold the mandates and resolutions adopted at the Annual General Meeting
  • Make decisions that help the organization run smoothly
  • Ensure implementation of the organization's activities
  • Contribute to the organization's development and maintain good financial management

Ideally, the person will have…

  • Knowledge of the principles of good governance
  • Coordination and facilitation skills
  • Good knowledge of issues affecting young women in the African diaspora
  • Demonstrate mobilizing leadership
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Sense of initiative and ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience in grant writing (an asset)
  • Previous board-level experience (an asset)
  • Experience in fundraising with major private sector donors
  • Experience in organizing fundraising campaigns targeting individual donors (an asset)
  • Organizational development skills (an asset)

  • Starting date: September 2024

What we offer

  • Term of office: 2 years with possibility of renewal
  • The expected monthly contribution is approximately: 10 hours
  • All directors are expected to :
  • Actively participate in monthly Board meetings;
  • Represent Sayaspora at various events as required.
