Whether through stimulating projects like Making your way up, Diaspora Speaking Festival or Culture, Sayaspora’smission is to promote the African diaspora in Canada, which is why we need your help !

Position description

Sayaspora, a dynamic platform dedicated to young African women globally, is seeking talented writers to join our team. The ideal candidate will create compelling content that supports our mission to inspire, connect, and empower the African diaspora. This role requires maintaining a consistent brand voice, ensuring the accuracy and originality of content, and engaging with our diverse and vibrant community.

The person will have to…

  • Create engaging written content that aligns with Sayaspora’s mission and resonates with our audience.
  • Adhere to specified formats, tones, and brand voices to ensure consistency across all content.
  • Self-edit work for spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors before initial submission.
  • Revise content based on feedback and line notes from the editor.
  • Conduct thorough research on assigned topics to provide well-informed and insightful content.
  • Interview relevant individuals to gather detailed information and perspectives.
  • Verify the accuracy of content with factual evidence and reliable sources.
  • Cite all research material and direct quotations properly.
  • Ensure that all written work is original and free of plagiarism.
  • Assist in distributing and promoting completed work across various platforms.
  • Meet all deadlines consistently.

Ideally, the person will have…

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in English or French, as needed.
  • Strong interviewing skills.
  • A degree in Journalism, Creative Writing, Communications, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Portfolio showcasing recent published works.
  • Genuine interest in contributing to our mission and sharing impactful stories.
  • Deep understanding of proper sentence structure and grammar (preferred).
  • Ability to write in various tones and styles.
  • Creative, dedicated, and capable of producing engaging content.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Independent, self-motivated, and a self-starter.
  • Strong communicator who thrives under deadlines.
