Sayalab<\/a>, I saw how valuable it could be for Black and Caribbean women content creators. Even though I didn\u2019t join, I knew we needed a space like this, one many of us wanted, even if we couldn\u2019t quite explain why. This personal realisation connects to a broader challenge that many creators face when seeking community.<\/p>\nAt first, the need for these spaces might not be clear. Creators today have endless information at their fingertips. Online video tutorials, articles, masterclasses, and online groups all offer tools to help you succeed. With so many resources, it seems easier than ever to learn how to grow, pitch, and build your brand. Still, questions remain about what these spaces truly offer beyond access to knowledge.<\/p>\n
But access to information alone does not create belonging. For Black and Caribbean women, challenges go beyond finding their voice or dealing with insecurity. Additional obstacles include bias in partnerships, lack of cultural representation, and being overlooked in professional networks where relationships drive opportunity. Four years ago, as an immigrant creative, I struggled with my confidence, especially when pitching myself or just showing up. Many spaces had a set idea of who fit in, and there were unspoken rules about how you should look to be taken seriously. Even when opportunities were available, it was hard to know how to approach them. It often felt like you had to prove yourself before you got any support. Recognising these barriers highlights the value of cohort-based spaces and the unique role they play.<\/p>\n
Where Confidence Is Built Quietly<\/h3>\n
A special kind of confidence grows when women create together, often unnoticed by those outside the group. For example, many cohorts follow the “wins circle” routine: each week, members share accomplishments, no matter how small, without pressure to perform or compete. This practice encourages open sharing, self-recognition, and creativity in a supportive environment, yet it is still seen as a solo journey. Women are told to stand out and build on their own, often without much recognition of the barriers they face. Several creators, especially those dealing with cultural or system-wide challenges, find that working alone can quickly turn from independence to exhaustion. Recognising this, cohort-based spaces offer an alternative by providing shared learning, feedback, and a sense of moving forward together.<\/p>\n
