Entitled <strong>\u201cMy Health, My Rights, My Power\u201d<\/strong>, this supportive space provided an in-depth understanding of how the healthcare system works in Canada, what patients\u2019 rights are, and how to access care with confidence and autonomy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event Objective<\/strong><br \/>\nThis workshop aimed to provide participants with clear and practical knowledge about their health and rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning from a Public Health Expert<\/strong><br \/>\nThe workshop was led by a specialist who demystified the workings of the Canadian healthcare system, explained care pathways, and shared practical tools for identifying rights, asserting needs, and navigating the various healthcare structures with confidence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussions and Exchanges Among Women of the Diaspora<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter the presentation, participants shared in small groups, discussing their personal experiences, challenges, and victories in their healthcare journeys. These intimate conversations fostered a sense of solidarity and mutual understanding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resources and Tools for Women<\/strong><br \/>\nThe final part of the workshop provided practical resources: key information on patients&#8217; rights, community organizations, tools for preparing for medical appointments, and tips for making their voices heard in healthcare settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Details<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Learning | Exchanges |<\/strong> Resource Sharing<br \/>\nFrom 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., participants enjoyed an immersive experience that included:<br \/>\n\u2014 Opening remarks and presentation of the SayaCare project<br \/>\n\u2014 Presentation by a public health expert<br \/>\n\u2014 Small group discussions<br \/>\n\u2014 Sharing of essential resources<br \/>\n\u2014 Q&amp;A session<br \/>\n\u2014 \u200b\u200bEvaluation and closing in a welcoming atmosphere<\/p>\n<p>A Transformative Workshop<br \/>\nThis event was a truly empowering and connecting experience. Each participant left with a better understanding of her rights, tools to navigate the healthcare system with confidence, and a sense of belonging to a community that is moving forward together.<\/p>\n<p>The SayaCare Project<br \/>\nSayaCare, supported by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, is a Sayaspora initiative that aims to reduce inequalities in access to healthcare for women of the African diaspora in Canada. Through workshops, a podcast, a multilingual guide, and an awareness campaign, SayaCare creates spaces where women can learn, express themselves, recognize themselves, and care for themselves with dignity and confidence.
