Job offer – Visual communications and events coordinator

Sayaspora is looking for a creative, rigorous and committed individual to fill a 30-hour/week hybrid position, divided between :
Coordination of event activities for the Montréal à travers elles project
organization-wide visual communications support
This role requires strong organizational skills, initiative and sensitivity to cultural, artistic and social issues specific to community and feminist circles.

Description of the organization

Sayaspora is a media outlet that amplifies the voices of women from the African diaspora in Canada. Created in 2015 in Montreal, Sayaspora was founded on the belief in the power of representation as a tool for social change and inspiration.

Managed, conceived, and led by women of African descent living in Canada who work for the good and development of their community, Sayaspora’s mission is to empower women from the African diaspora through a community, safe spaces, and resources that contribute to their personal, professional, and cultural well-being. Today, Sayaspora is an online network of more than 20,000 people with a predominantly female and young (18- 35 years old) audience.

Position description

Sayaspora is a non-profit organization based in Montreal, promoting the voices of young women from the African diaspora through cultural, media and community projects. We work to create caring, creative and inclusive spaces to empower marginalized communities.

The person will have to…

  • Plan and coordinate the various activities of the Montréal à travers project (events, workshops, filming, etc.).
  • Manage event logistics: venues, suppliers, equipment, hospitality, etc.
  • Ensure follow-up with collaborators, partners and service providers involved
  • Participate in defining event content, approaches and formats in collaboration with the team.
  • Monitor budget and compile data for reporting purposes
  • Document project activities for archiving and internal communication purposes.
  • Design attractive, coherent visuals for various projects and platforms (social networks, website, newsletters, posters)
  • Develop graphic elements in line with Sayaspora's visual identity
  • Support the dissemination of communication campaigns (publications, printed visuals, newsletters)
  • Contribute to the development of editorial calendars and visual content strategies
  • Participate in the design of presentations and documents for internal and external activities

Ideally, the person will have…

  • Relevant experience in event coordination and/or communications in a cultural, community or feminist environment
  • Visual creation skills (Canva or other design tools)
  • Familiarity with digital platforms and social media
  • Organizational skills, rigor and autonomy
  • Strong interest in storytelling, interculturality and social justice
  • Excellent written French; English an asset
  • Knowledge of the Sayaspora universe or the realities of the African diaspora: an asset

What we offer

  • Annual salary between $40,000 and $50,000, depending on experience and profile
  • 30-hour/week position with flexible schedule (possibility of working 4 or 5 days)
