faces of 5 young women seen from below

By Josie

Many of us are immigrants or children of immigrants. And as such, we are oft told that education is the key to success. Our parents and guardians emphasized (and sometimes overemphasized) the importance of pursuing higher education because they believed that’s what it would take to try to level the playing field.

And they weren’t wrong.

But as many of us have come to find out, there were so many aspects of life post-secondary that our parents couldn’t anticipate. We went and got our degrees, but there’s so many things school didn’t teach us. One being how to navigate the work force while facing systemic barriers. From micro-aggressions, to glass ceilings; from little to no mentorship to lack of growth opportunities…and unfortunately that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

If you resonate with any of the above, Making Your Way Up, The Event, is just the event for you. But just in case you’re still on the fence, here are 5 reasons why you should be at the next event…and why you should bring a friend too.

  1. Professionals just like you

If you’re a recent grad, get a jumpstart on your own career journey and hear from professionals who are currently where you would like to be. Come prepared to learn about what your professional evolution can look like, learn how to build an online image that can set you apart, learn what it takes to build quality partnerships, and so much more. All in all, come and learn how to thrive in the corporate world, without losing your sanity.

  1. Inspiring, success stories

Come hear the stories, engage with, and spill the tea with some of Montreal’s biggest success stories within the African community. These women are trailblazers in their own right. From the founders of community-centered organizations to consultations in varying topics such as equity, IT, digital branding, and much more.

  1. Insight into Canada’s market

If you’re not familiar with Canada’s job market, this is the perfect event to familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of this system…from those who are in it but sometimes feel as if they’re on the outside looking in as well.

  1. It’s online, and free

Making Your Way Up, The Event is the perfect Sunday, Funday that mixes just the right amount of ‘girl boss’ energy with older sis chats vibes…all from the comfort of your couch. Dare we say it, yes..you can have it all.

  1. Prioritize yourself

It’s never too early to get a jumpstart on your goals for next year. But before you do that sis, make sure you have all the tools you need in your toolkit to set yourself up for success. From best self-regulating tactics to means of increasing your EQ (and your income) no matter your field; we’ve got you sis.

Our parents worked with the tools they had to get us to where we are today. It’s in genuine community that we’ll go even further. But gone are the days where we do it blindly and alone. We’re Making Our Way Up, and you’re invited. Come through, there’s plenty of room.
